We would like to say a massive thank you to all those parents and carers who attended our Maths Workshop this morning, your support is very much appreciated. We hope you found the lesson useful, and the activities fun and engaging. The children were superstars when finding half of a number. Well done everybody!
Year 1 have done some fantastic work looking at The Carnival of the Animals and the orchestra. They are learning about the families of instruments and how the different music reminds them of different animals. Beautiful work year 1 and a lovely lesson!
Year 4 have been learning all about “The Nutcracker” by Tchaikovsky in music this half term. The children listened to the rhythms of the piece and played along using claps, slaps and cups! They put on a fantastic performance, well done Year 4!
The children in Key Stage 2 have been learning how to sign and sing the song “Friends Forever” to help raise funds and awareness for The Deaf Health Charity. Today, all children came in non uniform to help raise money for this wonderful charity, and the children gave their final performance. What a wonderful performance it was too!
The children in key stage 2 have learned the signs for this year’s Sign2Sing song, Friends Forever. The children will be recorded performing the song in tomorrow’s song practise and the video will then be shared with KS1 and FSU as well as being used in a video collaboration with the other schools in our Stoke Six group. Thank you to the KS2 children for their enthusiasm when learning the song and thank you in advance for all the children who are planning to come to school in non-uniform tomorrow as a way of raising money for deaf children.

With just twelve school days to go until the Young Voices concert, we had a fabulous choir practice this morning! We’re getting very excited about performing and we’ve all got our favourites… let me know which song you’re excited about performing! Can you guess my favourite?
After the fantastic performance of Cinderella on Monday, the children in Year 3/1 talked about what they noticed happened to the music throughout the show. They also shared how the change in music made them feel. Did you notice any changes in the music to show the emotions of the characters?
Finally, a reminder that Sign2sing will be taking place on Wednesday 7th February when we will be showing our fantastic signing skills to the other Stoke Six schools as we sing/sign Friends Forever. (See the link below if you want to do some extra rehearsing or read about why being involved is important).
In February 2018 the children in KS2 (along with children in our Stoke Six school group) will be taking part in Sign2sing. More details to follow. Click the link below to start learning the signs to the song and to learn about how being involved helps to fund projects that improve the lives of vulnerable deaf people.
Thank you year 4 for inviting me in to your classical music and dance lesson using the BBC 10 pieces Nutcracker live lesson. It was lovely to see you listening carefully to the orchestra as well as improving your ballet skills. I was also extremely impressed with how you used ideas from watching the Russian Dance to create and repeat your own motifs to the music.
Take a look yourself on the BBC 10 pieces website and listen to classical music being performed live by clicking on the link below.
The children at Reading Club this morning started to read a play script of Scrooge. When asked to infer how Scrooge felt about Christmas, George used his learning in Music to give evidence to support his view that Scrooge didn’t enjoy Christmas. Well done, George for making excellent links between lessons.
