In Nursery this week we have had a lovely time learning about Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights. We learnt how Hindus and Sikhs celebrate Diwali by decorating their houses with rangoli patterns and we even made our own diyas (diva lamps) using clay.
Congratulations to Ollie who received his Stanley 3 award. What a brilliant achievement, well done Ollie!
This afternoon, Year 2 have been learning all about the Hindu festival of Diwali. We have learnt that Diwali is known as the Festival of Lights and that it is a very important holiday in India. The children discovered that the word ‘Diwali’ actually means ‘row of lighted lamps’. During the Diwali celebrations, people eat festive foods, exchange gifts and wear their best clothes. They also decorate their hands using mendhi. The children have had a go at drawing their own row of lights and have decorated their own mendhi hand. They looks great! Well done children and Happy Diwali!
Flynn was very keen to show of his fabulous certificate for passing his Tadpole 1 award at swimming.
Well done Flynn!
